Gamini Ratnavira Ruby Throated Hummingbird

In this print Gamini Ratnavira has captured a pair of ruby-throated hummingbirds in flight.  They are so named for the brilliant iridescent red throat of the male.  This species is the sole breeding hummingbird found in eastern North America.  They are migratory creatures spending winters in Mexico. Ruby-throated hummingbirds prefer to feed on the nectar of bright red or orange flowers.
